Geoffrey Gallegos

Native San Franciscan Geoffrey Gallegos was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Golden Gate Philharmonic in 2001. During his tenure, the GGP has enjoyed exponential artistic, educational and organizational growth.

Maestro Gallegos holds an M.A. with High Distinction in Conducting from the University of Iowa and a B. M. with honors in Instrumental Education and Conducting from San Francisco State University. His early career included positions as Associate Conductor of the San Francisco Chamber Players Orchestra and Principal Conductor of the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra. In 2003, Maestro Gallegos made his debut with the Golden Gate Opera Company of Marin and was subsequently invited to become Music Director and Conductor of the Company. From 2003-2008 he served as Assistant Conductor of the Peninsula Symphony of Northern California, and since 2004 has been Music Director and Conductor of the Kensington (CA) Symphony Orchestra.

Maestro Gallegos’ deep commitment to arts education extends beyond his responsibilities with the GGP, including several years as Artist in Residence at the SF School of the Arts, Guest Conductor at Cazadero Music Camp and as Coordinator of Instrumental Music at the Nueva School in Hillsborough. He is a member of the Board of Directors, San Francisco Community Music Center, where he began his music studies with the trumpet at the age of eight.
